Minneapolis hosts about 80,000 Somali residents in Minnesota, most of whom are US citizens or legal residents. City leaders held a press conference to reassure the Somali community amid reports of federal immigration raids and political attacks. Mayor Jacob Frey addressed the community in Somali and English and vowed steadfast support, condemning plans to target people based on appearance and warning that due process and citizens' rights would be at risk. The police chief said the department received no advance notice of operations and affirmed that Minneapolis police do not assist federal immigration enforcement. Council member Jamal Osman visited neighborhoods and urged unity and reassurance.
