Training for Ukrainian soldiers in the UK employs amputees as realistic wounded figures to simulate the horrors of war. This approach, led by Col. Boardman, aims to instill a sense of shock and realism in recruits. The exercises include a first aid course where recruits learn to apply tourniquets on simulated injuries, emphasizing the differences between healthy limbs and severe wounds. More than 56,000 soldiers have been trained under Operation Interflex, which involves support from 13 allied nations. The training addresses the brutal realities of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The aim is not only to help soldiers survive but to be as lethal and as effective as they can be.
To prepare Ukrainian soldiers... trainers have been employing amputees as wounded soldiers to make it feel real and introduce a bit of 'shock.'
Quite a lot of them are amputees. That adds a real sense of realism to the exercises: When you come across the casualty and it's someone with a leg missing at the knee and lots of theater makeup all over them.
Actually putting a tourniquet on a stump is different to putting a tourniquet on a healthy leg.
