Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is planned as the next major franchise installment and will skip PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. As the franchise transitions to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2, the Warzone battle royale spin-off will also move away from older hardware. Activision announced plans to shut down Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One. Warzone will be integrated with Modern Warfare 4 shortly after its October 23 launch, but because Modern Warfare 4 does not release on PS4 or Xbox One, Warzone on those platforms will be phased out. Starting with Season 1, Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One will no longer be playable. Beginning June 4, the game will stop being available for new downloads on those platforms, while existing players can continue until Season 1 launches. Some items, including Call of Duty Points bundle purchases, will no longer be available on those platforms.
