The FTC has officially dropped its case against Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, concluding a legal struggle that began nearly two years ago. Following a failed appeal to prevent the $68.7 billion deal, the Commission filed an order to dismiss the complaint, stating it is in the public interest to do so. Microsoft had prevailed against the FTC earlier in July 2023, with the acquisition finalized in October. Microsoft’s leadership expressed gratitude and framed the decision as beneficial for players and a triumph for reason in governmental decision-making.
The Commission has determined that the public interest is best served by dismissing the administrative litigation in this case.
Today's decision is a victory for players across the country and for common sense in Washington, DC.
We are grateful to the FTC for today's announcement.
