MachineGames aimed to make The Great Circle the most accessible MachineGames game so far. The Game Pass presence allowed any subscriber to try the title, and internal data showed many Game Pass players would jump in for five minutes then drop out. The studio balanced making some concessions for short-session players with maintaining a great experience for players who play all the way through and preserving story-centric priorities. The Great Circle launched in December 2024 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, released on PS5 in April 2025, and a Nintendo Switch 2 version is planned for 2026. The Order of Giants expansion launches on September 4, and Lucasfilm expressed interest in further Indiana Jones gaming projects.
Speaking to The Game Business, design director Jens Andersson said the aim was to make The Great Circle "the most accessible MachineGames game so far," and it being on Game Pass meant that anyone with a membership could give it a shot. The data coming back to MachineGames showed that Game Pass players would "jump in for five minutes and they drop out."
"You can take a certain amount of decisions based on that, but at the same time, you don't want to make too many concessions," Andersson said. "It needs to be a great game for the player who plays all the way through. That's the most important part for us, being the story-centric studio as we are." Overall, Andersson described this as "a hard balance" to strike for The Great Circle.
