Gameloft marks 25 years in the mobile gaming sector, evolving from a small startup to employing over 2,900 people across 10 studios. CEO Alexandre de Rochefort attributes the companyâs longevity to its adaptability and responsiveness to industry shifts. He identifies four pivotal moments in Gameloft's history, including the introduction of Java on Nokia and Siemens phones in 2003, which helped catalyze the mobile gaming wave. Despite industry challenges, Gameloft continues to thrive, blending original IP and licensed games.
Every six months, it seems, we've been faced with critical changes, either within Gameloft or within the industry. The number one reason I'm still here in the company is that I'm still having fun, because every six months there's something radically new happening.
The first date the Gameloft CEO mentions is January 2003, when the Java programming language was added to Nokia and Siemens mobile phones. This, as de Rochefort explains, was the spark needed to turn the mobile gaming industry into what it is today.
