Kirby Air Riders Is "Basically Mario Kart," Sakurai Says
Briefly

Nintendo announced the upcoming launch of Kirby Air Riders, a racing game from Masahiro Sakurai. During the Nintendo Direct presentation, Sakurai expressed concerns that the new title may resemble Mario Kart too closely. He emphasized the game's appeal lies beyond traditional racing elements. The presentation included a variety of details about characters, vehicles, and the setting of Skyah, along with gameplay modes, notably City Trial, allowing for up to 16 players. Kirby Air Riders is scheduled for release on November 20 for Nintendo Switch 2.
OK, so it is basically Mario Kart.
I even mentioned this when I received the request to make the game. I asked them if they still wanted to do it, but as fans of the original know, the appeal of the game is actually not the races!
The 45-minute deep dive into Kirby Air Riders revealed many details about the upcoming racer, including the characters and vehicles players will be racing with, as well as the floating island of Skyah that serves as the game's setting.
Multiple modes, including City Trial with up to 16 players, were also detailed during the presentation.
