Marathon Promises War On Dataminers Who Try To Leak Spoilers
"With today's launch of Marathon, we just wanted to give you all a heads-up that our goal is first and foremost to preserve the experience and surprises for all of our players. We will be issuing takedowns for any datamined content that has not yet been revealed to players."
"Datamining files that are already revealed (character models, weapons, etc.) and creating fun art as a result will not be taken down. Creators, if it's currently playable in the build, go forth and do your thing."
"Just issuing this statement makes me hopeful that the surprises and events in the game are gonna be big and meaningful. Hope Bungie takes everything they've learned from Destiny and gives us some insane secrets to find."
Bungie announced a zero-tolerance policy toward datamined spoilers for Marathon, its live-service game that releases content throughout seasons. The studio will issue takedowns for any unrevealed datamined content to protect player experience and preserve surprises. However, datamining of already-revealed assets like character models and weapons, as well as fan art created from playable content, will not face takedowns. This stricter approach differs from Bungie's previous tolerance of leaks in less visible corners of the internet. Players have responded positively, expressing hope that the preserved surprises indicate meaningful content and secret discoveries similar to community puzzles from Bungie's prior releases.
