Nightreign Gets Swamps Because FromSoftware Can't Help Itself
"I'm one of the many Elden Ring Nightreign players who's been begging for DLC for months. Once it was finally revealed, I was a bit disappointed at how small it seemed. Fortunately, three new pieces of information have convinced me I may have been underestimating FromSoftware's upcoming The Forsaken Hollows DLC. According to a new interview, it'll be harder than the main game, feature a bigger reworking of the map than previously thought, and include the introduction of the Dark Souls studio's signature poison swamps."
"When The Forsaken Hollows was finally announced, publisher Bandai Namco's description suggested the Limveld sandbox everyone had become accustomed to would be tweak but left pretty much in tact by the new content. According to a new preview at GameSpot, that actually really undersells the new content. The new Scholar and Undertaker classes aren't the only big additions. There's also the Great Hollows. It's technically still a Shifting Earth event, but it's also a much more expansive one than players have previously encountered."
The Forsaken Hollows DLC increases overall difficulty beyond the base game and remodels Limveld more substantially than expected. A new Shifting Earth called the Great Hollows transports players to a separate section with fields, city ruins, sprawling mines, caves, tunnels, vertical platforms, and side-quests tied to a new curse. Two classes, Scholar and Undertaker, join the roster. Poisonous swamps appear both in the Great Hollows and across Limveld, slowing movement and building poison, scarlet rot, frenzy, and other ailments. Navigation and vertical platforming become central challenges, offering a larger alternative to a full new map.
