Romero Games Says It's Not Dead, But Looking For A New Publisher After Xbox Layoffs
Briefly

Romero Games confirmed it is not shutting down after its next project was canceled due to a publisher pulling funding. The company is actively seeking a new publisher to help complete the game. Several publishers have expressed interest, and the team is evaluating these options. Although some employees were affected by recent Microsoft layoffs, the studio remains committed to finding a way forward. The gaming landscape, specifically within Xbox Game Studios, has faced significant challenges, leading to many cancellations and a lack of successful releases this generation.
Romero Games clarified that, although its next game was indeed canceled due to pulled funding, the company itself is still actively exploring next steps.
According to the statement, "several" publishers have reached out to the company about seeing the game through, and the team is "evaluating" its options.
The statement itself says it cannot name the publisher due to "confidentiality agreements," but members of the studio have already stated publicly that they were caught up in the layoffs at Microsoft.
The Xbox Series X/S generation has been defined by a lot of carnage for Xbox Game Studios and not nearly enough good games to show for it.
