Robert Francis Prevost, recently named Pope Leo XIV, enjoys playing video games like Wordle and Words with Friends as a way to distract himself before his election. His brother, John, shared this detail, along with the fact that Robert watched the movie Conclave prior to becoming pope. Despite his love for gaming, Robert abstained during the conclave due to the rules requiring cardinals to surrender phones. He is the first American pope and a Chicago White Sox fan, succeeding Pope Francis who passed away earlier this year.
I wanted to take his mind off of it--laugh about something--because this is now an awesome responsibility.
Robert Prevost didn't play any video games during conclave, however, as all cardinals had to surrender their phones before voting.
Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday this year at the age of 88. He had been pope since 2013.
Leo XIV is the first American pope and the 257th pope overall.
