Capitals @ Red Wings: How the Game Was Lost
"They started much stronger than they did on Saturday, dominating play in the first period and getting on the board first courtesy of Ethen Frank. The second period belonged to the Red Wings, who took a 2-1 lead into second intermission, but the Caps woke back up in the third to tie it with another goal from Frank. No one scored again before the end of regulation, so fans at Little Caesar's Arena were treated to some bonus overtime hockey."
"Overtime got off to an inauspicious start for Washington when Dylan Strome was called for hooking on Dylan Larkin. The Caps were not pleased with the call, which was definitely a little weak, but their penalty kill and Charlie Lindgren came up huge to keep the Red Wings from scoring on the 4-on-3 man-advantage. However, Mo Seider came up huge for his team two minutes later to score the overtime game winner."
The Washington Capitals lost 3-2 in overtime to the Detroit Red Wings despite a third-period comeback. Ethen Frank opened the scoring and later tied the game in the third with his second goal. Detroit controlled the second period and took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission. Overtime began with a hooking penalty on Dylan Strome, and Washington's penalty kill and Charlie Lindgren initially stopped the advantage. Two minutes later Mo Seider scored the overtime winner after Aliaksei Protas was delayed getting to his defensive position. Protas led Washington forwards in ice time with 21:14. Inconsistency remains a problem for Washington.
