"He's got facial injuries," Carbery said. "I'm not going to go into the specifics of what areas of his face, but he does not have a head injury. Facial, whatever you want to call it, (and) shoulder injury."
Rookie Ryan Leonard will miss approximately three to four weeks after sustaining a shoulder injury and facial injuries on Dec. 5 in Anaheim. Leonard took a blindside, up-high hit from Anaheim Ducks forward Jacob Trouba and has been out since. Capitals PR projected recovery of approximately 3–4 weeks based on the injury and expected rehabilitation course, placing his return in early to mid-January. Head coach Spencer Carbery confirmed facial injuries and explicitly stated Leonard does not have a head injury or concussion, while declining to specify facial areas. The team previously described the absence as extended. Updates will follow.
