Timothy Liljegren was acquired by the Washington Capitals in a trade deadline deal and brings several established relationships to his new team. Liljegren and Rasmus Sandin, both Swedish defensemen, were former defense partners on the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2018 to 2023 and played together in the AHL. Sandin was Liljegren's first contact after the trade. Additionally, David Kampf, another Capitals trade deadline acquisition, was Liljegren's teammate in Toronto for parts of four seasons. Head coach Spencer Carbery previously served as an assistant coach in Toronto for two years. These existing connections ease Liljegren's transition to Washington.
