The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) plans to relocate to the National Science Foundation's (NSF) headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. Staff at NSF were unaware of this change until reports surfaced, leaving them feeling blindsided. The union leader, Jesus Soriano, mentioned that the change would be announced at a press conference, and there are currently no planning details for NSF's future, as HUD has not made arrangements for NSF's relocation after the move. The transition is expected to begin with HUD taking over floors in the NSF building.
One NSF employee said that they had literally zero idea the move was coming until reports began circulating among staffers Tuesday evening.
Jesus Soriano, president of the union that represents NSF employees, said he was expecting a press conference Wednesday morning in the NSF lobby.
The union, Soriano wrote, understands that there is no planning except that the HUD secretary may take over the 18th and 19th floors.
HUD and the General Services Administration announced in April that HUD wanted to move out of its current location in the Robert C. Weaver Federal Building.
