In a historic performance at the Men's College World Series, Gage Wood of the Arkansas Razorbacks pitched a no-hitter against Murray State, achieving a remarkable 19 strikeouts. This accomplishment made him the first player to throw a no-hitter in the MCWS in 65 years, with the Razorbacks winning 3-0. Wood faced a perfect game until the 8th inning when a pitch hit a batter. Remarkably, no MLB pitcher has surpassed 17 strikeouts in a no-hitter. Wood had overcome a shoulder injury earlier in the season, making his performance even more impressive.
"I'll be the first to say, there was nothing being talked about or said in our dugout. We were just going to let him roll." - Dave Van Horn
"Is Gage going out for the no-no?" asked Goodwin, the son of Clay Goodwin, Arkansas' director of baseball operations.
"Wood's 119th and final pitch was clocked at 97 mph, and Wood ran his fingers through the cursive letters over his chest, emphatically saying, 'Arkansas' as the Razorbacks beat Murray State 3-0."
