Nationals finalize coaching staff for 2026 under new skipper Blake Butera
"As of yesterday, with Paul Toboni having some media availability from the 2026 Winter Meetings in Orlando, Toboni announced his finalized coaching staff for the upcoming season, and it is set to be the largest uniformed coaching staff the franchise has ever had. This is a massive change from the Mike Rizzo and Dave Martinez era. "After pulling off a surprise trade for catcher Harry Ford from the Seattle Mariners over the weekend, it seems everybody and their mother is interested in what the team will do with some of their other young assets. Going into 2026, the team is certainly in a better place than they ended the 2025 season, and part of that is due to the new leadership under Paul Toboni as well as the new manager in town in Blake Butera."
The Washington Nationals acquired catcher Harry Ford from the Seattle Mariners and now face heightened interest over other young assets. The club enters 2026 in a stronger position following leadership changes under Paul Toboni and new manager Blake Butera, both the youngest at their respective positions in the league. Paul Toboni finalized an 11-person uniformed coaching staff for 2026, the largest in franchise history and a marked change from the Mike Rizzo–Dave Martinez era. The announced staff includes Blake Butera (manager), Matt Borgschulte (hitting coach), Sean Doolittle (assistant pitching coach), Dustin Glant (assistant pitching/bullpen coach) and additional coaches. Matt Borgschulte served as the Twins' hitting coach in 2025 after prior time with the Orioles, and Dustin Glant joins from the college ranks after serving at Indiana University.
