Washington added multiple minor-league signings, Rule 5 Draft selections, and signed Foster Griffin from Japan as the first major-league acquisition under Toboni. Right-hander Sauryn Lao, a former waiver claim from the Seattle Mariners, agreed to a two-year deal with the Nippon-Ham Fighters worth more than $3 million, with one guaranteed year and a team option.
