Commanders enter trial by fire that could put offseason overhaul on blast
The Washington Commanders enter 2026 seeking a major rebound after a 5-12 season. General manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn have added two promising coordinators and multiple roster pieces intended to make the team younger, faster, and more motivated. Early results will be difficult because the schedule includes road games against the Eagles and Cowboys, a matchup with the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, a London game versus the Indianapolis Colts, and a Monday Night Football game against the San Francisco 49ers. The first six games could determine whether playoff hopes survive. Later, Washington faces the Giants and Bengals, then plays four straight games against the Cardinals, Titans, Texans, and Falcons, creating a chance for a late surge if progress is established early.
"In the second half of the year, the Commanders have a stretch in which they face the Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, and Atlanta Falcons in four consecutive games. Prior to that, they have the New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals. Those are all winnable contests, and a prime opportunity for Washington to make a late-season surge."
