Suns again sued by employee for discrimination
Briefly

A lawsuit against the Phoenix Suns, filed by their director of safety, Gene Traylor, alleges discrimination, harassment, and retaliation by the organization. Traylor claims he faced retaliation after presenting a report on safety risks, which included incidents of theft and harassment involving employees. Since January 2023, Traylor has experienced demotion and pressure not to take medical leave for his cancer diagnosis, representing serious workplace concerns. This lawsuit follows three prior suits against the Suns, highlighting ongoing organizational issues.
The latest lawsuit was filed by lawyers representing Gene Traylor, the Suns' director of safety, security and risk management who joined the team in January 2023. In the complaint, Traylor says one of his primary roles was to identify safety, financial and reputational risks for the Suns. In 2023, Traylor submitted a presentation for management, which was reviewed by ESPN, that outlined three incidents.
Traylor alleges the presentation led Suns management to retaliate against him, including having him demoted nearly a year later. He also alleges the team discouraged him from taking protected leave after he was diagnosed with cancer.
The lawsuit is the fourth filed against the Suns by a current or former member of their organization in the last seven months.
In response to ESPN, the Suns denounced one of the plaintiff's attorneys, stating that the Supreme Court of Arizona has disciplined her for numerous violations.
