Flau'jae Johnson was traded to the Seattle Storm after being selected by the Golden State Valkyries with the No. 8 pick. The trade agreement was made prior to the draft picks being submitted. Seattle's general manager expressed excitement about acquiring Johnson, who was not expected to be available. In exchange, the Valkyries received the draft rights to Marta Suarez and a future second-round pick. The announcement of the trade surprised many attendees at the draft.
