Firefox 149 beta develops a split personality
"Mozilla's split view has been in testing for a while, but this is the first time it has been on by default. It lets you place two separate tabs side by side inside the Firefox window. You can drag the separator between them where you wish, for instance for one narrow page and one wide one."
"If you run the beta, it automatically picks up your current Firefox profile, and by default Firefox won't open a profile that's been modified by a newer version. That means you can't go back: Firefox just shows an error and suggests creating a new profile, which isn't very helpful."
Firefox 149 is now in beta testing following the release of Firefox 148. The new version includes several improvements such as hardware-accelerated PDF rendering, expanded address autofill support, WebGL performance enhancements on Windows, and improved sharing features. The most visible addition is split view, which allows users to place two separate tabs side by side within the Firefox window with a draggable separator that can be positioned to accommodate different page widths. While split view has been tested previously, this is the first time it appears enabled by default. Users interested in testing should be cautious about profile compatibility, as Firefox automatically uses the current profile and prevents reverting to older versions if modifications occur.
