Chico Hot Springs Resort, located in Pray, Montana, is a renowned destination for relaxation after adventures in Yellowstone National Park. Its geothermal pools have been a source of comfort since at least the 1860s, even though local tribes utilized the springs long before that. The resort, significant to the Paradise Valley community, began as a saloon in the late 1800s and became a historic hotel listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, it remains a beloved spot for families and visitors looking to unwind in beautiful natural surroundings.
"It's always been the heart of the artichoke, as far as (Paradise) Valley is concerned," said Colin Davis, who managed, then part-owned and then owned the resort for a total of 28 years.
Tribes...camped and hunted in the area, and members of the Crow, Flathead, Blackfoot, Shoshone and Nez Perce tribes all used the hot springs for bathing, cooking and preparing hides.
The quaint white-and-green hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places, and people have soaked in the springs that feed the two geothermal pools since at least the 1860s.
I feel like that's never stopped. Lounging in these hot springs or staying the night in the historic lodge or nearby cabins offers a peek into the past.
