EXPLAINED: Sweden's plans to allow alcohol producers to sell take-away drinks
Briefly

Starting June 1st, small alcohol producers in Sweden will be able to sell their products for off-site consumption under new rules known as gardsforsaljning. This change applies to vineyards and microbreweries making limited quantities of alcohol. Only those producing up to specified limits of spirits and fermented drinks will qualify, and customers must participate in a paid tour or similar. This reform has garnered mixed responses among producers, with some expressing excitement at the opportunity to serve international customers who previously could not purchase Swedish wine to take home.
The new law, known as gardsforsaljning, will allow small producers to sell their alcohol for off-site consumption, a significant change in Swedish alcohol regulations.
Eligible producers can sell their beverages to visitors who have paid for tours, with limits set at 3 litres for wine/beer/cider, and 700ml for spirits.
