S. Carolina claims 1st 'Real SC' title in win vs. USC
"We have seven players who have to play a different role for us than what they had with their previous school, or even with us. It's hard,"
"We're used to having a core group of players that have played together for a long time. This year, Raven [Johnson] is basically the lone person that has been part of that regime ... I thought we put a (good) game plan together."
"Real SC"
South Carolina defeated USC in Los Angeles to claim the inaugural "Real SC" title and improve to 4-0. The Gamecocks returned just one starter, Raven Johnson, and navigated several transfers and season-ending injuries. Raven Johnson produced 14 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two blocks while taking on new leadership responsibilities. Guards provide the most experience, but the team historically relies on its bigs; transfer center Madina Okta grabbed 15 rebounds and began to show confidence. Coach Dawn Staley emphasized role changes and implementing a solid game plan as the program seeks a new identity.
