Microsoft's latest layoffs hit software engineers hard
Briefly

Microsoft's recent layoffs have significantly affected its software development teams, with nearly 7,000 employees cut, equating to 3% of its global workforce. The majority of cuts were in software engineering roles, particularly in Washington, where over 40% of the layoffs occurred. Notable developers, including Mike Droettboom, a core developer of CPython, and Ron Buckton, a veteran TypeScript engineer, were among those laid off. This move follows implications earlier in the year regarding management restructuring and a focus on leaner operational practices.
It's been a tough couple of days. Microsoft's support for the Faster CPython project was canceled yesterday, and my heart goes out to the majority of the team that was laid off.
After 18 years at Microsoft, with roughly a decade of that time working on TypeScript, I have unfortunately been let go in the latest round of layoffs.
