"I was terrified to walk away from television. I went to school for it; it was all I had ever known, and I had built my entire identity around it. Even with great insurance, I realized how easily women could be dismissed."
"It's funny because I never imagined television would prepare me for this, but being able to show up at music festivals, conferences, and major cultural events, places I used to work behind the scenes, has become the perfect bridge. We're meeting women where they are. We're providing breast exams at concerts, at large gatherings. Entertainment became the gateway to make early detection feel approachable."
Tiara Neal spent over a decade working in television production for major networks before a stage one breast cancer diagnosis at 34 prompted a career reassessment. During her medical treatment, she learned to navigate complex healthcare systems and advocate for herself. This experience revealed how easily women, even those with good insurance, could be dismissed by the medical system. In 2023, Neal left television to become the founding executive director of Bexa Equity Alliance, the nonprofit arm of a health-tech company dedicated to advancing equitable early breast cancer detection. She now leads outreach efforts in underserved communities, using her entertainment industry background to make breast cancer screening accessible at cultural events, music festivals, and large gatherings.
