"The Conde Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Award winners were chosen through a survey that received over 757,000 responses between April 1 and June 30 of this year. Candidates were judged on a set of criteria on a five-point scale - excellent, very good, good, fair and poor. To be eligible for the top 50, candidates had to receive a minimum number of votes and a minimum overall score, after which they were ranked."
The Lodge at Bodega Bay was named the best hotel in the world for a second consecutive year after receiving 757,109 votes. The Sonoma Coast property features secluded beaches, nearby vineyards, a fireside lounge with Pacific Ocean views, in-room Jacuzzis, ocean shell massages at the spa, and an on-site restaurant, Drakes Sonoma Coast, known for its French toast breakfast. Rooms now start at $399 and increase during busy seasons. California hotels comprised 14 percent of the Condé Nast Traveler top 50. Winners were selected via a survey conducted April 1–June 30 and judged on a five-point scale.
