Benin's government confirmed casualties on both sides after an attempted coup was suppressed with foreign military intervention. A small group of soldiers planned to remove the president, subjugate state institutions and challenge the established order. Mutineers attempted to neutralize or kidnap senior officers, including army chief-of-staff General Abou Issa and National Guard chief Faizou Gomina, who were later released in Tchaourou. The army surrounded the Togbin base and launched targeted, surgical airstrikes aimed at avoiding harm to nearby neighborhoods. At least 14 people were arrested, while alleged coup leader Lieutenant Colonel Pascal Tigri remained at large and the fate of some hostages was unclear. President Talon called the attempt a senseless adventure and vowed to punish the mutineers.
