"Nielsen said he is "sad" because Trump had again "reduced our country to a question of security and power.""
""Greenland is our country. This is where our decisions are made. And at any time I will fight for our freedom and our right to self-determination and shape our future," Nielsen said."
""We need Greenland for national security. Not for minerals," the US leader said. "We have to it.""
Greenland's prime minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen expressed disappointment and said he was "sad" that U.S. President Donald Trump intensified efforts to take control of Greenland, saying Trump had "reduced our country to a question of security and power." Nielsen stated that Greenland is responsible for its own future, that territorial integrity and Greenlanders' right to self-determination "cannot simply be ignored," and pledged to fight for freedom and the right to shape Greenland's future. A January poll showed most Greenlanders favor independence from Denmark but oppose joining the U.S. Trump appointed Jeff Landry as special envoy to "lead the charge," and Landry pledged to make Greenland "a part of the US," prompting Denmark to summon the U.S. ambassador. Trump framed the move as necessary for national security rather than resource exploitation.
