"Do you see it as a challenge to your peace efforts? Could you say that louder, please? the president asked. Yes, yesterday, there was a vote at the Knesset in Israel on annexing the West Bank, she reiterated. Do you see it as a challenge to your peace efforts? At that point, Trump turned to Attorney General Pam Bondi and said, Will you answer that, please? Because I cannot understand a word she's saying."
"You're from France, Trump said. Beautiful accent, but we can't understand what you're saying. Bondi then informed the president that the question was about Israel and the West Bank. The West Bank? Trump said. Don't worry about the West Bank. Israel's not gonna do anything with the West Bank, ok? Don't worry about it. Is that your question? They're not gonna do anything with the West Bank. Don't worry about it. Israel's doing very well. They're not gonna do anything with it."
President Donald Trump became visibly annoyed with a French reporter who asked about a Knesset vote that gave preliminary approval to apply Israeli law in the West Bank. The Knesset vote irked several Trump administration officials and was said to undermine a ceasefire Trump helped broker. Vice President JD Vance called the vote a very stupid political stunt. Trump asked the reporter to speak louder, said he could not understand her, and praised her accent. Attorney General Pam Bondi clarified the question was about Israel and the West Bank. Trump repeatedly told the reporter not to worry, insisting Israel would not act on the West Bank. A similar exchange occurred in February when Trump said he could not understand an international journalist.
