"Several governments and regulators have taken action over Grok's image tool, which is embedded in the X social media site and has provoked outrage as it allows users to manipulate images of women and children to remove their clothing and put them in sexual positions. The Musk-led company that developed Grok, xAI, said last week the ability to generate and edit images would be limited to paying subscribers on X."
"The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said on Sunday it would restrict access to Grok over the AI tool's ability to generate obscene, sexually explicit, indecent, grossly offensive, and nonconsensual manipulated images, including content involving women and minors. MCMC said it had issued notices to X and xAI this month to demand the implementation of effective technical and moderation safeguards."
Malaysia temporarily blocked access to Grok, becoming the second country to do so after Indonesia, citing the tool's ability to produce fake, sexualised and nonconsensual images. Governments and regulators have acted against Grok's image tool, which is embedded in X and can manipulate images of women and children to remove clothing and place them in sexual positions. xAI said image generation and editing would be limited to paying X subscribers who have provided personal details and can be identified if misused. MCMC issued notices to X and xAI demanding effective safeguards and judged user-initiated reporting inadequate; applicability to X, the Grok site, or the app remained unclear, and reports from Indonesia indicated some continued access.
