Netanyahu Says Israeli Military to Take Over 70 Percent of Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he directed the Israeli military to take over 70 percent of the Gaza Strip, describing a step-by-step approach. He asserted that the military already controlled 60 percent of Gaza, after moving from 50 percent to 60 percent. Under a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement in October 2025, Israel created a “yellow line” dividing Gaza, with Israel controlling 53 percent. Palestinians approaching the line marked by yellow-painted blocks were shot and killed despite the ceasefire. Reuters reported in January that Israel moved some blocks deeper into Gaza, destroying areas and forcing residents to flee further west. Forensic Architecture found that by December Israel had taken 58 percent and continued advancing the line, and new military maps in April outlined further expansion using an “orange line.”
