He is among 26 world leaders attending the 80th anniversary commemoration. The Beijing event will be the first time Kim, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin have gathered at the same venue. Senior officials from the Central Committee and government are accompanying Kim. The visit follows the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin, where Xi and Putin criticised Western dominance. North Korea relies on China and Russia for economic and diplomatic support and has grown closer to Moscow, sending troops to Ukraine. Kim has met Xi five times and Putin three times.
