Olympic champion Gabby Thomas will miss World Athletics Championships with injury
"I understand that it will be disappointing for some track fans to hear this news, but I've finally come to the realization that it's OK to be human and take care of myself, Thomas said in a press release on Tuesday. As an athlete you always want to keep grinding, but sometimes you simply can't outwork an injury. Sometimes it's about patience and making the right decision for the long term. All the best to my Team USA teammates fighting for medals in Tokyo."
"you're a choke artist you're going down, Gabby."
Gabby Thomas will miss the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo because of an Achilles tendon injury present since May and aggravated in July. Thomas is the 200m Olympic champion and a member of the gold-medal 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. She struggled at the US nationals, securing the final 200m spot by 0.001 seconds. Thomas plans to return to competition in 2026. She emphasized the need for patience and long-term recovery, acknowledging that athletes sometimes cannot outwork injuries. Thomas also reported verbal abuse at a Philadelphia meet and online heckling captured on video during a race.
