Russian President Vladimir Putin is on a two-day state visit to New Delhi aimed at strengthening economic, defense, and energy cooperation. The visit is the first since Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine and takes place amid Western sanctions pushing Moscow closer to India and growing US pressure on India over purchases of Russian oil. Discussions are expected on strategic energy deals and possible co-production of Su-57 fighter jets. India is seeking improved Russian market access for pharmaceuticals, automobiles, agriculture, textiles, and services.
