The village of Tarasin in Central Darfur's Marrah Mountains was completely levelled by a landslide after days of heavy rainfall. The Sudan Liberation Movement-Army reported initial information indicating the death of all village residents, estimated to be more than 1,000 people, with only one person surviving. The Sovereign Council in Khartoum mourned the death of hundreds and said all possible capabilities were mobilized to support the area. The U.N. humanitarian coordinator said between 300 and 1,000 people may have lost their lives and that the U.N. and partners were mobilizing support. Local emergency teams recovered nine bodies while bad weather and lack of resources hinder search and recovery, and community leaders mobilized to recover and bury victims.
