Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has suspended operations at Sudan's largest displacement camp in North Darfur due to increasing violence between the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The camp, home to over half a million people, has witnessed intensified fighting and severe humanitarian needs, including widespread starvation. MSF's head of mission, Yahya Kalilah, expressed deep regret over the decision, stressing that the conditions are too dangerous for staff and patients alike. Patients, particularly children, have died due to lack of proper treatment, and transport to safer facilities has become perilous.
Despite being a humanitarian aid project, halting our work in the camp is the only option we could take under these dire security conditions, which are worsening by the day.
We are facing an overwhelming influx of patients in desperate need, yet we cannot provide adequate treatment due to the lack of security and resources.
