"Volunteers from across the world have come together in the main hall of one of Spain's oldest labour unions, the UGT once a registration centre for international volunteers who came to Spain to fight fascism during the Spanish Civil War. Now it has trained the nonviolent international volunteers Palestine supporters, activists, journalists and politicians who will sail on the Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza on Sunday."
"Their goal is to deliver humanitarian aid, which is the flotilla's only cargo, and open a humanitarian corridor for Palestinians facing being starved and killed by Israel. In less than two years of war, Israel has killed more than 63,000 Palestinians with tens of thousands more injured and missing. About 26,000 applications from people around the world came in and were whittled down to the hundreds who will be on board the roughly 100 flotilla boats."
Volunteers from dozens of countries gathered in the main hall of UGT in Barcelona after training as nonviolent international volunteers, including Palestine supporters, activists, journalists and politicians, to sail on the Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza. The flotilla aims to carry only humanitarian aid and to open a humanitarian corridor for Palestinians facing starvation and killing amid Israel's assaults. In under two years of war, more than 63,000 Palestinians have been killed with tens of thousands injured or missing. About 26,000 applicants were narrowed to hundreds for roughly 100 boats. The convoy will route via Tunisia and Italy, yet past flotillas have been intercepted by Israeli forces.
