"Since the flotilla set sail in late August, San Francisco attorney Sidney Hollar had been watching the feed to follow her son, Logan Hollarsmith, aboard one of the boats, the Ohwayla. When the livestream cut out on Sept. 30, contact was lost. But six days later, she finally got the call she'd been waiting for: Her son was alive and free."
"Hollarsmith, who is from Noe Valley, was among 462 activists - including at least 21 Americans - detained after Israeli forces intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla on Oct. 1. He was one of the few civilians assigned to the Ohwayla, which organizers referred to as 'the vets boat' because most of the crew was made up of United States veterans, plus a Ukrainian Orthodox priest who acted as the resident medic, an Al Jazeera journalist and two women from Finland."
Activists led by Greta Thunberg and Mandla Mandela launched the Global Sumud Flotilla from ports in Spain, Italy, Tunisia and Greece to deliver humanitarian aid and challenge Israel's blockade of Gaza. The mission included 42 boats and carried international activists, veterans, journalists and medical personnel. The livestream from the flotilla cut out on Sept. 30, and Israeli forces intercepted the flotilla on Oct. 1, detaining 462 activists, including at least 21 Americans. The Ohwayla carried mostly U.S. veterans and a few civilians, and detained activist Logan Hollarsmith was later reported released to Jordan.
