"He is already too old to govern, and it's boring knowing only him as president,"
"In the face of increasingly difficult international environment, the challenges facing us are more and more pressing,"
"In such a situation, I cannot shirk my mission."
Elvis Nghobo failed to enter four professional schools and now sells food in Yaounde, blaming a corrupt education system that favors elite children. Nghobo refuses to vote, calling the election outcome a foregone conclusion for 92-year-old Paul Biya. Biya is seeking an eighth term in a single-round presidential vote with 8.2 million registered voters and has governed since 1982 after Ahmadou Ahidjo’s resignation. Cameroon has had only two leaders since 1960. The median age is 18; unemployment is 3.5% overall while 57% of those aged 18–35 work in informal employment. Modest oil-driven growth has not reached most young people amid escalating security crises, including a secession fight in the western region.
