Trump officials defend lethal strike on alleged Venezuelan drug boat
Briefly

A U.S. military strike on a boat in the Caribbean Sea killed 11 people. President Trump said the vessel was operated by drug smugglers tied to Venezuela and displayed aerial imagery of the boat engulfed in flames. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called Nicolás Maduro a "kingpin of a drug narco state" and said Maduro "has some decisions to make." U.S. officials have not provided a legal justification for a lethal strike outside armed conflict. U.S. authorities have not disclosed how the boat was targeted, who was aboard, or the types and quantities of drugs involved, though the crew was identified as members of Tren de Aragua.
We have tapes of them speaking. It was massive amounts of drugs coming into our country to kill a lot of people, and everybody fully understands it. You see it, you see the bags of drugs all over the boat and they were hit.
Nicolás Maduro, as he considers whether or not he wants to continue be a narco trafficker, has some decisions to make.
Venezuela's been very bad, both in terms of drugs and sending some of the worst criminals anywhere in the world into our country.
