"wasn't on my charts"
"His majesty would like me to do something very powerful having to do with Sudan,"
"readiness to seriously engage with them to achieve the peace that the Sudanese people hope for."
"was just something that was crazy and out of control."
President Donald Trump said he intends to focus on helping find a resolution to the civil war in Sudan between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The announcement followed a request from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during his Washington visit. Trump said the conflict, which began in 2023, "wasn't on my charts" before their dialogue and that the crown prince asked him to do "something very powerful having to do with Sudan." Sudan's sovereign council, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, expressed a "readiness to seriously engage" with the US and Saudi Arabia to pursue peace. US officials have also pursued diplomatic outreach, including calls seeking UAE support for a ceasefire. The fighting has killed over 40,000 people and displaced more than 14 million.
