"One passenger and one member of cabin crew suffered serious leg injuries 20 minutes after the seatbelt signs were switched on, an investigation found. The flight was travelling from Los Angeles to London Heathrow on December 6 2024, when the incident occurred. The turbulence, which is understood to have lasted between 10 and 15 seconds, was perceived as light to moderate by the captain, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch revealed."
"The captain reportedly considered diverting to airports in Canada or Iceland, but deemed those choices unsuitable and persevered on to Heathrow airport, where an Airbus A380 aircraft was met by ambulances, who transported the three casualties to the hospital. Passengers are required to wear their seatbelt when the sign is activated, and the captain of this flight switched on the sign ahead of turbulence, after monitoring a live weather app on his tablet."
