Russia wants preparations to resume for a second U.S.-Russia leaders summit after Trump canceled plans for a meeting with Putin in Budapest. A Russian envoy traveled to the United States to pursue resumption of summit preparations. The U.S. imposed sanctions against Russia's two biggest oil companies to press Putin to agree to a ceasefire. Those sanctions are the first the U.S. has imposed over the war with Ukraine since Trump took office. Trump said he "cancelled" the planned meeting because he felt it would not lead to any results and said, "We will do it sometime in the future." It is not clear if Dmitriev will meet other U.S. officials. Trump rejected Zelensky on Tomahawk missiles during a "tough" meeting.
