The fuel crisis in Gaza has reached a critical point according to OCHA, exacerbated by the ongoing Israeli blockade. Essential services, including hospitals and water systems, are on the brink of failure due to depleting fuel supplies. The situation could lead to an increase in deaths unless new fuel is permitted to enter Gaza urgently. Aid efforts are severely hampered, with the needs of the population outpacing the capacity to provide assistance. Medical staff report alarming shortages, risking the ability to deliver vital care as essential services halt due to power failures.
OCHA has warned that the fuel crisis in Gaza due to the Israeli blockade has reached a critical point and will cause further deaths and suffering in the besieged Palestinian territory.
The deaths this is likely causing could soon increase sharply unless the Israeli authorities allow new fuel in urgently, regularly and in sufficient quantities.
Senior World Food Programme official Carl Skau also decried the lack of fuel in Gaza, stating the needs are greater than ever, and our capacity to respond has never been more constrained.
The director of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, Muhammad Abu Salmiya, emphasized that without fuel, generators cannot run, making it difficult for hospitals to provide care.
