Mara Naaman: A Literary Voice Shaping Culture
"I don't like to think in terms of success or outcomes. Being invested in process means being able to learn for the sake of our own enlightenment."
Mara Naaman is an independent scholar, writer, and editor who has built a career centered on ideas rather than outcomes. Her path began in dance at Interlochen Arts Academy, then shifted to literature and Arabic studies at Wesleyan University. She earned a PhD in Arabic Literature from Columbia University, lived in Cairo, and conducted research on literary representations of downtown Cairo. She taught Comparative Literature and Arabic at Williams College and is currently pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing. Naaman emphasizes that being invested in process allows for learning driven by personal enlightenment rather than success metrics. Her career reflects a commitment to cultural work and intellectual rigor that resists shortcuts.
