"... those who succeed deserve their status; those who have been left behind have only themselves to blame. P. 9."
"... embrace of progress as a main purpose and goal for politics. Conservatism was born of a skepticism toward modern faith in the unwavering beneficence and advantages to be reaped by constant transformation and advance of society, and the attendant belief that any temporary costs-especially those borne by ordinary people-were justified in the name of eventual betterment. P. 91."
"... Moreover, right liberalism's unwavering support for a free market, ideally unhindered by regulation and political limits, frequently resulted in economic disruptions,.... P. 67."
Liberalism sought to eliminate hereditary elites but ended up replacing them with a new hereditary elite that dominates political, economic, and cultural life. The liberal elite champions progress, meritocracy, and free markets, asserting that those who succeed deserve their status and those left behind bear sole responsibility. This orientation produced economic disruptions, managerial rule, and an estranged elite that despises working people, creating a subservient class. Left and right variants of liberalism share culpability through faith in progress or unregulated markets. Conservatism preserves skepticism about relentless transformation and defends order, stability, balance, virtue, and continuity. Restoration of older social structures aims to reorient politics toward those goods.
