Thousands of Norwegians were misled into thinking they'd won enormous Eurojackpot prizes due to a coding error at Norsk Tipping, Norway's lottery operator. The error, which resulted in exaggerated jackpot figures being displayed, stemmed from a multiplication mistake during currency conversion. While players saw false jackpots, no payouts were made. After the incident, the CEO resigned, and the company announced an investigation to prevent future errors, acknowledging a history of missteps in its operations.
I have received many messages from people who had managed to make plans for holidays, buying an apartment or renovating before they realized that the amount was wrong.
Norsk Tipping will be investigating how such a mistake could have happened to prevent something similar from happening again.
