'Plans to stop flooding and cut pollution will ruin park'
Briefly

Enfield Council's watercourses team proposed a restoration plan for the polluted Pymmes Brook, aiming to reduce flooding and enhance water quality through natural bent waterways. However, local residents, represented by the Friends of Arnos Park, strongly oppose the plan, fearing it would divide the park and reduce recreational space. Concerns about maintenance, pollution, and wildlife impact were also raised. In contrast, the volunteer group Pymmes Brookers supports the council's efforts. The council plans to engage with local groups through meetings and a public consultation to address these concerns.
Local people are unhappy with the proposal as we believe it will split the park in two, reducing space for ball games, picnics etcetera and blocking sightlines in the park.
We also doubt how much of a flood risk Pymmes Brook actually is and think that any wildlife benefits will be severely limited by heavy pollution.
In contrast, volunteer-run community group Pymmes Brookers said it supported any proposal to restore the health of Pymmes Brook.
A council spokesperson said: The council is currently in conversation with the Friends of Arnos Park, Arnos Park Preservation Society, and several other local community groups.
